Achieved goals and end result

The project proposal “Reducing waste in the water area of Nessebar through cleaning actions and campaigns to raise awareness of the local population: protection of the marine natural and cultural heritage as a public responsibility and a resource for the local traditional livelihood” had as its main goal through the implementation of pilot and innovative technologies such as marine geophysical and remote sensing to contribute to reducing the amount of waste in the marine environment, and through the conducted public campaign to increase the awareness and awareness of the population about the problems of marine waste. The implementation of all the activities foreseen in the project contributed to a large extent to the achievement of the general goal of the program, namely: “Improved environmental status in ecosystems and reduced effect of pollution and other human activities.”
Given the fact that the internal policies of the donor countries are distinguished by a special attention to the environment and have achieved significant results in this area, we consider that the implementation of the project and the achievement of the expected results for improving the quality of sea waters contributed to achieving the goals of The EEA Financial Mechanism: “Contributing to reducing economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area”.

Final result of the project implementation:

  • Held 1 pc. campaign to clean the seabed in the water area of the town of Nessebar, collected and deposited waste.
    Cleaning of the water area was carried out in two stages, in accordance with the identified goals of the conducted remote survey. The first stage of the cleaning took place in the period 30.03-07.04.22 and the second stage from 09.05 to 18.05.2022. As a result of the cleaning campaign carried out in the water area of the town of Nessebar, more than 1000 items were removed from the seabed. car tires, concrete blocks, iron, buckets and other waste items. The cleaning was carried out by three teams of qualified divers and two accompanying boats. The heavy objects were removed with a crane boat. The waste removed from the sea was collected and transported to the Waste Transfer Station – Nessebar, and at the next stage the suitable waste will be recycled.
  • Realized 1 pc. awareness campaign on marine litter issues consisting of 4 elements.
  • Holding a meeting – a debate with fishermen, boatmen, environmentalists, archaeologists, biologists, local people and representatives of the Municipality of Nessebar to raise awareness in relation to the problems of marine waste, held on 22.03.2022.
  • Recording of a lecture on the cultural and natural heritage in the water area of Nessebar and the impact of waste on it;
  • Holding an outdoor exhibition of posters, aimed at raising awareness among the population about the negative impact of pollution on the cultural and natural heritage in the water area, held on 12.08.22, on the territory of the fishing port “North Buna – Nessebar”;
