The first stage of the cleaning of the seabed around Nessebar under the project “Reduction of waste in the waters of Nessebar” has been completed

Hundreds of car tires, iron, buckets and other waste were removed from the waters of the Nessebar Peninsula during the first campaign to clean the seabed, conducted within the project “Reduction of waste in the waters of Nessebar through cleaning campaigns and campaigns for raising the awareness of the local population: protection of the marine natural and cultural heritage as a public responsibility and resource for local traditional livelihood “, funded by the Program” Environmental Protection and Climate Change “of the EEA FM 2014 – 2021.

The extracted waste, accumulated mainly as a result of fishing activities in the area of the port of Nessebar, was transported to the Transshipment Station – Nessebar, where it will be sorted and handed over for recycling. A second remote sensing study is to be conducted to assess the results achieved. A second clean-up campaign will then be carried out to remove more rubbish that is still lying on the seabed. The implementation of the project will continue until August 26, 2022, with the aim of maximizing the status of the ecosystem in the Black Sea and reducing the effect of human pollution.
